Fiber identification of braided composites using micro-computed tomography

چکیده

Braided composites contain interwoven fibers that are embedded in a matrix material. Advanced measurement methods required to accurately measure and characterize braided due their composition. Micro-computed tomography (μCT) is an X-ray based method allows for the internal structure of objects be examined. High-resolution μCT geometry measured. Braid samples were measured with voxel size 1.0 μm3, which resulted field view 4.904 x 3.064 mm3. With this view, individual within braid yarns could identified The scientific visualization software package Avizo XFiber extension was used identify yarn from collected measurements. Fiber properties such as orientation angles (φ θ), curved fiber length, tortuosity, diameter obtained. Additionally, finite element mesh geometries created. presented methodology provides roadmap accurate modeling composite unit cell using high-resolution data.

PREDICTING THE STIFFNESS OF BIAXIAL BRAIDED FIBER COMPOSITES BY INCORPORATION OF CARBON NANO FIBER

In this study, carbon nano fibers (CNFs) were mixed into epoxy resin through a magnetic stirrer and again mixed using ultra sonicator. Using hand layup technique, biaxial braided fiber composites were prepared with unfilled, 0.2, 0.5 and 1 wt% CNF. Tensile test and shear test was performed to identify the tensile strength and shear strength of the composites. Fractured surface of the tensile sp...

Development of Micro Aerial Vehicle using Piezoelectric Fiber Composites

Recently, flapping robots are noticed by many researchers, and many challenges are being made toward the realization of flight motions like insects, birds and so on. The purpose of this work is to develop flapping robots using a new type of piezoelectric material, that is, piezoelectric fiber composites. By using the composites, actuating fibers and sensing fibers can be embedded into a wing as...

X-ray micro-computed tomography

Micro-computed tomography (μCT) has been successfully used to study the cardiovascular system of mouse embryos in situ. With the use of barium as a suitablecontrast agent, blood vessels have beenimaged and analysed quantitatively such asblood volume and vessel sizes on embryosof ages 14.5 to 16.5 days old. The advantageof using this imaging modality is that it hasprovide...

Identification of anomalous features of intravitreal injections using micro-computed tomography.

PURPOSE To identify anomalous features that impact drug delivery in the eye as a result of intravitreal injections using micro-computed tomography imaging. METHODS Three-dimensional micro-computed tomography images were acquired following an intravitreal injection of 0.03 mL of contrast agent into ex vivo porcine eyes (n = 24). A baseline scan was acquired prior to injection to detect any abn...

Quantification of eggshell microstructure using X-ray micro computed tomography

1. X-ray microcomputed tomography can be used to produce rapid, fully analysable, three-dimensional images of biological and other materials without the need for complex or tedious sample preparation and sectioning. We describe the use of this technique to visualise and analyse the microstructure of fragments of shell taken from three regions of chicken eggs (sharp pole, blunt pole and equatori...
